Memorial Day Sales - stash report

Yesterday I had to cover 8 hours of working a concession stand for DD- this after covering 9 hours of babysitting. Needless to say the girl owes me a week of Vanilla Lattes :p
But I went to Joann's to buy a border fabric for the GS cookie mom's quilt I decided to gift her with and saw books were 40% off
I had to buy some-lol
So I bought 3 this one, this one and finally this one .So much to read and absorb.
But I did finally finish all 6 of the Girl Scout quilts and put labels on them. Washed them and tomorrow will buy gift bags and tissue paper, as a troop we have almost $500 left so the girls are all getting visa gift cards and I'm ordering lots of yummy food for the party, shrimp to be cooked ala Pioneer Woman Doesn't it look simple yet yummy???? Sushi and a few bottles of bubbly so everyone can have ONE glass to celebrate.
Prom is less than 2 weeks away- room at the Jersey shore is rented for afterwards. Alterations are done on DD's dress. Oh and her Dad is letting her out of the house dressed like that :P. Graduation party invites are mailed. Present ordered( she wants the green one). I even ordered the smaller red one for myself as a bday present :p. Plus we're giving her the car she's driving as her own. No more the car is in your dad's name it better be home by XX. Please pray for our sanity on this one :D
Well laundry needs to be switched....
Oh I bought 2 yards of fabric and finshed 2 more 5x7' quilts plus backing and bindings....I'm sure I'm ahead of the game at this point. Just thankfull to have them all done on time

Goodies from Quilt Show and Stash Report

A different rug pattern- each rug uses 7 1/4 yards - where do I sign up???

Some hand quilting stencils and a few fqs for a applique class. It's repro design and hubby silly man wants the wall hanging to be the same as the pic on the
pattern :( I'm not big on repros

A couple of purse patterns and nice leather handles for purses. One pattern uses the 2 1/2" squares ( great as mine are breeding again) and the other the 5" charms :)

Isn't this a great template? It's a giant tumbler :) You get 2 tumblers from a fq. And who doesn't have fqs or more of fabric we have no recollection of buying????

Lastly I bought 4 1/2 yards of blue to make this pattern that one of my guild members designed.

So lets see, we've had 4 yards of border and binding fabric in
4 1/2 yards of snuggler fabric in
15 yards of muslin for backing in (90")
3 fqs in

We've used 4 yards of the muslin and 4 yards for borders and binding.
Yikes that leaves me in a huge hole.....but the muslin and border stuff is getting used as I finish each of the Girl Scout quilts. I have 3 quilted
1 waiting for trimming and binding
2 with binding sewn on and down
2 tops
1 with borders ready to load tomorrow morning
and a box of blocks waiting for it's turn.
All the binding is made and borders cut

Not the best report but it's the worst one in awhile-lol.

Sunday Stash report and stuff

The day started out well with a yummy breakfast- I forgot to include the who grain thomas's english muffin....we're all trying to eat better.

The first of 7 quilts for the Girl Scout troop. The next one is one the frame ready to quilt :) I have another top pieced -just needs borders and another top in rows.
But for the stash report I used I guess 8 yards for top and back and binding which is made and will be attached in the morning. No fabric in again this week *VBG*
I also started cutting up the muslin leftover from Cathedral Windows for another rug. One of my friends wants one for the beach house - I even get to deliver it and stay the weekend.

Earlier in the week I received these in the mail from Jeanne- arent' they great?? Thanks Jeanne :)

Today was the family party for DS who's turning 15 in 2 days. Where does the time go? I was yelling for him and getting no answer- I go into his room to find this:

Now Moose, living up to his name weighs about 15 lbs- can't be comfortable....

Sunday stash report

While goofing off in the hotels this week,I managed to finish the hand quilting of the jar. Spent the day yesterday sewing the hanging sleeve on and doing the binding (1 yard)

I also finished the quilting (FINALLY) and added the binding to it to sew down this afternoon. 4 yards + for the top and 5 yards of backing and binding (9)

They say it takes 20+ yards of fabric for the rug- wow!!! I'm glad that's done. I'm cutting strips to start another one soon. But I need to find some lights to do a pattern.....I think the white muslin is going to get dirty too fast- maybe a tea dye will help......(20)

So I'm going to say I finished using 30 yards of fabric in these projects....I'm hoping to have a good report ( not as good as the last 2 weeks) next week as I'm going to start quilting the Girl Scout quilts this week :)

Oh and no purchases this week either not even legal buys :)

Stash Report and More :)

This blanket ( I didn't use batting in my windows) used 21 yards of 36" muslin and about 3 yards of assorted prints for the "windows". So using the below top and give away I used or gave away 29 yards of fabric!!! Wow !! Pretty cool. I feel so much better that the Cathedral Windows is finished and fruits and veggies are gone.

This baby is made with a weekend frenzy group. Though I got the cutting directions late, I improvised with about.coms directions, kinda. I pretty much read theirs and changed to what I wanted to do :P. I used 25 different fabrics for the jars, 20 of which were fqs that I'm mailing the rest of them to someone else to do the quilt. WOW!!! 5 yards gone!!!!

People have asked about my sewing case........
A few months back, I took a class with Linda Franz and Monkey on quilted diamonds. Linda had the greatest little "desk" for hand piecing on the go. Hubby especially liked the tip of using just 2 needles at a time. One to pin the end of the seam and one to sew. Most of the times I use that system. There have been alot less missing needles to be found walking around barefoot *S*

This is the case open. A nice lap desk per say. Notice the lovely quilted sewing kit I got from Paula for a Pay it Forward gift :)

stashbusting report

2 fqs came in last week for the QAL blocks. I still need to finish cutting sashing for the blocks and get it pieced. Nancy said I was safe as I didn't go over a yard :)

I finished the Carolina Crossroads top :) I'm very happy with it and can't wait to get it quilted.

I also finished the Grandma Cora top. That one is being mailed to Mel to practice her feathers on *VBG*

I've been playing with the Viking and put Ethel up for a well deserved rest. Poor gal has been the main piecing machine as I just didn't get the 1/4" seam on the Viking. But yesterday I called one of my friends in VA to help talk her through the feather points of the feathered star we're paper piecing and she has the same machine and was a huge help!!! So now I know what to do when it's beeping at me :) and more importantly why. But I got the top row done of my star and I need to finish putting the other two rows of parts together tomorrow or maybe Tuesday.

I have a bunch of Ocean Wave parts that need to be trimmed to piece more blocks- we're stuck at 32 I think .

Everyone is home tomorrow so I doubt much of the sewing will get done.....
Enjoy the day if you're off

Stashbusting Report 2/03/08

No new fabric came in the door and I used 2 yards of hand dyed reds to wrap a very late Christmas present :p
I'm piecing my Carolina Crossroads top together this week. I have almost half done today and need to pack it up. I have 25 Ocean Waves blocks made of 64 - that is very exciting to me :) I so want this quilt to be ready for the summer.
Grandma Cora is coming along nicely. I have 1 of 4 corners done and BIG parts of the other 3 done.
So I guess I'm down 2 yards of fabric and that it for my week. None came in - better than nothing I guess :)

Debi's
doing a give away of sorts-a blog wide giveaway. I'll have to catch up with my 100th post give away and think of something to join in :)
Also, remember in Dec when SEWMAMASEWdid all those nifty gifts for the holidays? Feb is quilt month there- check them out :)

stashbusting and some pics

No fabric came into the house this week, and none were finished into tops or quilts either :( So it's a wash of a week for me. Lots and Lots of blocks made- alot of near finishes. I hope Mr Juki is done soon so I can quilt.

I did manage to finsh 4 more ocean waves blocks - yippee only 56 more to go. Lots of partials going but I needed to stop and start making the rows of Carolina Crossroads. I for the 3 middle ones sewn together and put it all away for the move today.

The cats woke me up at 4AM this morning. I was not a happy camper and I couldn't run a machine as the rest of the house was sleeping so I was sewing a few more tumbling blocks together....of course wise guy I'm married to asked it if was a Q Bert quilt?

We put a shelf up, rearranged the sewing area so I'm facing the windows. I've decided I have way too many books...lol. But I couldn't find any I wanted to part with. See Ethel on the book case. I need to order one of those cute boxes for her.
I don't know if you can see the box from the first treadle base...which was way past being able to repair for less than alot more than it was worth. I kept the machine and pitched the base- 2 refinishers said it wasn't worth fixing with all the cracks in the wood and what looks like had termites....but the box covers my embroidery machine PERFECTLY. That will be stripped and refinished in the spring VBG>

This HUGE and HEAVY box came Friday to me - wonder what's under all those styrofoam pellets??????

Isn't it great???? Mel sent it to me when I killed the Janome Gem last weekend. There are a million buttons.I joined a Viking Group and was able to get a pdf of the manuel and will print it out tomorrow and play. Thank you so much Mel!!! You Rock as DD would say

Stashbusting Report 1/20/08

Let's see- it's been a busy week.
My Girl Scouts tied 2 charity quilts tonight for my guild so 3 yards of 90" muslin.
The best part of that is they really enjoyed it so I can see us doing a few more before they graduate :)

1 6 x7 12" block string quilt was quilted . Top was a UFO and 2 1/2 yards of 90" backing fabric plus 1 yard of binding was sewn to it.
I gave 1/2 yard of hand dyes away.

WOW not doing alot of finishing but still a nice report. Wait till these tops get done and the juki tuned up and watch out :)

Sunday Stashbusting report

Well I went to Joann's and bought 5 yards of wow ( white on white) to work on my Girl Scout quilts.More than half the block is background colors so it goes quickly. And at 40% off and an extra 10% i need to get it when I can. I'm halfway through number 6 of 10 colors. Yippee!!! I picked up a 1/3 yard of candy blue kona for the grandma cora quilt as I ran out of the triangles for the rows :( Is that a legal stashbusting buy????

Lots of blocks made this week but no quilts so I guess I had more come in than out :(

But wait till all these blocks are done- watch out I'll be on a roll. :)

We're waiting to see the path of the N'Easter that's coming. They say 5-8" of snow but it's raining right now. We shall see. If we have no school - the kids will help in the rearranging of the sewing area :p shhhhhhh I didn't tell them yet-lol.

I'm also doing step 6 of Bonnie's mystery and can't find 10 of the 9 patches- so I'll make more tomorrow so I can do the corner blocks. I still need to make AManda Jean's Quilt ALong blocks- I'll be three weeks behind tomorrow. Hopefully I can get all caught up if they go to school- if not there's always Tuesday :)

Look what my sister bought DD for her 18th bday-lol her very own crash dummy
You can buy ANYTHING on ebay

Stashbusting report

Lookie, lookie, I used about 4 yards of fabric to wrap my secret santa gifts *VBG*.
I have another half yard piece of hand dyed to go with me to the post office. Problem is, the person is trying to bust stash-lol. So I lose a 1/2 yard and they gain one. Sounds fair to me. I liked that I saved the solid strips from the 30's fabrics and had white and purple for my bows.

I also used 3 yards of muslin to wrap the frame for the second rag rug. I didn't get far on the braiding part as I threw my back out Friday morning. But will cut some more for tonight's tv viewing. Hopefully another 2 yards- but we won't count that.
I have no idea how to figure what I used for Bonnie's mystery. The saddest part of that mystery is all 3 colors I'm using I have yardage of. But soon that will be gone too.

So I will mark myself at 7 1/2 yards of fabric out of the stash for the week. Yippee!!! And I have kona in the washer with synthropol - so there will be more gone next week.

those 2 1/2" squares strike again......

I finally started my grandma cora quilt from one of the yahoo groups this summer. I had all the setting triangles cut already in candy blue kona and showed hubby the finished quilt in the directions. While he likes the baby blue for the triangles he thinks the borders that will be in the quilt need to be darker....so....what am I supposed to do??? Go find a darker blue fabric in the stash tomorrow and see if I have enough - even if it needs to be 2 different dark blues. But I finished the center tonight and will work on the big corners this week along with the 10 other projects I have going. Problem is it finishes 96" :( too big for my frame so I guess I'll have to save my quarters and mail it to Mel ( ready Mel-lol) See I want the bins to close better and I see that others have them so neatly in the boxes or drawers they're stored in and quite frankly I have to many to do that to :(
So I have to use them up so I can sort them NEATLY AFTER the holidays

So here's my spoiled Moose- it was a cold windy day here today. And I have double pane windows so I don't know why he didn't want to sleep on his perch...he's so spoiled-lol

My Stash busting report for the week

Well let's see
1)I cut about 100 10 1/2" squares to use as backings for the scrappy quilts to come.

2) I made my rag rug and am so happy with it I started cutting more strips for another one in blues

3)I'm working on 24 blocks made out of 25- 2 1/2" squares that will also use 25 -
10 1/2" squares ( not the ones from #1) just for the top. I think I got 12 of the blocks done this weekend.

But I can actually see the results, as in an empty fabric container and that just thrills hubby as he filled it with his junk not even giving me time to think about filling it *wink*

I've also been cutting some less than desirable fabrics into strings and strips of different sizes ( mostly 2 1/2") for future quilts. I have a few of Bonnie's quilt patterns in mind and need to work more on the mediums as I go. Tomorrow will be finishing my 25 blocks and cutting the rest of the bigger squares. I want to piece the top next weekend and get it quilted.

Hubby offered twice to go fabric shopping as I need more whites but I was on a roll and declined - I did manage to get him to order a roll of warm and white for me though :) So once these tops are finished I can get them quilted.

I have a question though, you know those lasagna quilts just big strips of fabric.....has anyone used one as a backing for their quilts??? Just something to ponder with the fqs I found in the digging.

I also found about 15 different fruit/veggie fabrics I want to do "something" with.
But most likely after the holidays.....

More Braiding :)

So this is the pile of strings I had to braid with today. What I did was cut a couple of 2 1/2" strips- a 10 1/2" square or 2 and then the 2" strips for braiding. Anything left over was a cut of strings for the next string quilt.

I am so loving this braiding that even the orange fabric from the monster is in it already and I've learned to make a herringbone type pattern which I would love to try again in 2 colors- but I'm not buying fabric just to make rugs- nope not happening. But all those long pieces from backings that I've quilted that I saved so I wasn't wasting fabric etc is finally getting used. Hey I'm down one whole bin already *clap! clap! clap!*

Tomorrow morning I will be sewing down the binding for my secret santa gifty. I got the binding on it this evening. And look for another bin and see what is no longer "loved" BUt Carole- thank you so much for a great idea :)

Question for my blogger friends

SO here's my question and I'll leave it till tomorrow to figure out. I made this for a secret santa gift. I love it as a table topper but it would be just as nice as a wall hanging, so the question is....do I put a hanging sleeve on it as I do the binding? Or leave it alone???

I'm off to actually sew something today and make 2 labels one for this pineapple, and one for the monster :)

I didn't spend much time actually sewing yesterday , well except for finishing the monster's binding and the hand quilting on the Christmas pineapple. Well I guess I got more done than I thought *VBG* But I did actually cut alot of squares for backings, 2" strips for rag rugs and 2 1/2" strips for something ala Bonnie in the future.

What Stash did YOU bust today????

Well I spent ALOT of my day gathering paperwork needed to get my son's passport.
Then I cut up probably 3 or 4 yards of 10 1/2" squares for backings. But the big buster of the day was another 3 yards of 2" strips for the rag rug frame *VBG*
I have 2 more yards to cut for squares tomorrow morning and then I need to warp the frame with the strips and see if I can get this baby going. According to the directions each rug will take up to 10-15 yards of fabric. Now how cool is that???
And any questionable fabric can be saved for the next rug's warp fabric as the braiding covers it- WOW!!! I think we all need this frame .

Amanda Jean added the third block to our quilt along. I'll make my 2 tomorrow morning.

LOOK!!!
I wrapped the warp fabric and started weaving *VBG*! I also have a nice sized stack of squares to start using for backings and more 1/2 yard pieces of what was I thinking fabrics. Like this Peanuts fabric- not enough for a backing- design too much to fussy cut and get much out of it....so 2" strips it is and it's almost gone and I had 4 yards of it - yippee!!!

Stashbusting

Judy, at Sunshine Quilts, has a challenge for us to report this week how we're busting our stash and what we're doing to avoid buying more...gulp.

Like Leah I have a couple weird sized flimsies that need backing and a simple width of fabric isn't quite big enough :( So I have a stack of no longer desireable fabrics that will be chopped up into the ever popular 10 1/2" squares tomorrow and Tuesday and pieced into backings for 2 wall hangings. I will need some distraction from the main project of the day which I will blog about tomorrow when I get step 2 done. I did step 1 tonight during commercials of Desperate Housewives....
I also have to see about getting ds's passport pics taken after school and hopefully Tuesday getting the paperwork together to apply for it for him.

We had a family party for my sister's bday here tonight and my sewing stuff is everywhere but in the sewing area...it will take a day or two to get it back to the mess I like. I have all the blocks from Marge's mystery still in a pile on my sewing table waiting to be laid out and pieced together. I might just put them in a container till after the holidays, if it's truely 50* tomorrow I may finally quilt the quilt on my frame...you never know.
